Description
Take a private sailing cruise from St. Peter's, via the historic tidal lock Canal out to the Atlantic Ocean, and around Isle Madame. Two ports of call on Isle Madame. Hotels and all meals included. This is a hands-on sailing adventure departing and returning to St. Peter’s. Features: a circumnavigation of Isle Madame in the Atlantic waters of St. Peter’s Bay, Lennox Passage and Chedabucto Bay. Take the helm, handle the sails, help with the navigation, or just kick back and relax. You will have a first-hand sea-level experience in the pristine coastal waters of southern Cape Breton.
The itinerary can be custom-tailored to your preferences, and considering wind and weather conditions. We have options for sailing in open-ocean, closer coastal waters and protected passages in this area.
Itinerary
Set sail from St. Peter’s on the Bras d’Or Lake into the Atlantic Ocean for a circumnavigation of storied Isle Madame. We’ll start the day with a transit through the historic tidal lock canal and head for Arichat, the shiretown of this Acadian Island and our stopover for the night. Enjoy a full-course dinner at the Island Nest, with accommodations and breakfast at the Clairestone Inn. Shuttle service is provided between our dock and the Inn.
We’ll continue our circumnavigation westerly, heading out of Arichat Harbour and then northerly and easterly through Lennox Passage. This is a scenic coastal cruise in the waters separating Isle Madame from Cape Breton. and we’ll make our way past the lift bridge at Burnt Island, where a causeway connects the islands. We’ll make port in d’Escousse, and you will check into The Groundswell – a short walk from the village wharf, for dinner and overnight accommodations.
At your leisure we’ll depart d’Escousse Harbour for some ocean sailing, and depending on weather and your preferences, we’ll return to the lake early enough to explore St. Peter’s inlet and maybe a swim in the warmer waters here. You will arrive back at our home dock in late afternoon.
